Maine Coon Cat
Cat Facts:
Breed Type: Natural
Body Type: Short and sturdy, on low legs.
Coat Type: Longhair
Size: Medium to large (Up to 8-9 kg or 18-20 lbs)
Temperament: Maine Coons are affectionate but they need their freedom. They are not demanding but are rather quiet and relate well with children and other pets. Males can be a bit silly and hyperactive while the females are more calmer.
Colors: White, black, blue and white. Tabby: silver, cream silver, brown classic, brown tabby and white, torbie and white, silver patched, blue silver patched. Black smoke and white.
Origins:
Through natural selection the Maine Coon has survived severe winters in New England during the 1700 – 1800s. This had ensured that only the strongest and most adaptable cat survived developing the rugged, and water-resistant characteristics of the Maine Coon.
There are several stories regarding the origin of the breed, including one that states that the breed was interbred with a raccoon. However most breeders agree that the breed originated from matings between short haired domestic and overseas long haired cats.

my Maine Coon is a rescue kitty about 13 years old (hard to tell). She is the sweetest kitty and adopted a new kitten we got for her. She is nurtering and just wonderful. And she is a lap kitty. She loves to be with me and will climb on me on her own terms. She loves being groomed and likes to have her toes manicured (just clipped - no silly stuff). What a joy she is - not to mention gorgeous and a purr monster. She sleeps on my head - yes, she does. If I get another cat I will look to adopt another Maine Coon.

I hve a mainecoon who made an incredible journey to me.She survived at extreme high speeds from the west coast oregon to me in Ohio. My father is a truck driver, while he was on a delivery trip to oregon, he picked up a passenger!!~! The passenger being my penelope! During my dads lay over she had escaped her world only to find herself on a moving world. My dad daid to me he kept hearing a chirpy cat cry while parked and driving home to ohio. That cry ws my girl miles from the home that her curiosity had stolen her from. Upon her arrival we relized she could not be blende into our fmily of siamese that had steaked their home 18 years prior!!! So my solution I would take her home untill her owners could fly her home! To the total benefit of me that day has never come and I hope never will. She has been with me now for two years and has an american short hair as a pet we would all be lost without her, SHE IS MY GIRL!!!! LOST IN OHIO WITHPUT MY MAINECOON

I have a domestic short hair (she was a barn kitten), a pedigreed Maine Coon and a pedigreed Ragdoll. All three cats have wonderful personalities and bring great joy to my life. I am in love with my Maine Coon. She by far has the most cat presence and is always up for playing. She’s also a gentle giant. Just a sweetheart to the core.

I have 2 Maine Coon females and honestly couldn’t imagine my life without them. They’re goofy and clumsy, yet still try to be refined! lol It’s great! I had 2 males also, everyone thought they were small dogs! One of my boys was 30 lbs and the other 35 lbs. I love all breeds of cats, but couldn’t imagine having anything but my M.C.s to love on.

I must say that my maine coon is extremely intelligent and even more lovable. My cat greets me at the door everyday when I come home from work. She meows more than any other cat I’ve met. I think everyone should experience owning a maine coon. The only downside is my cat does not like to be cuddled or held. She is very independent and choosing when she wants to sit on your lap and cuddle with you. I would tell anyone who is thinking about getting a cat to first consider the maine coon breed.

I love my sissy cat (Maine Coon). It is a funny story how he ended up with the name sissy. He lived in my garage last winter. My husband started feeding him scraps. Them my son was here and managed to get him to start coming up to us. We thought he was a full grown cat. We checked him out to see if he was a male or female, Didn’t see anything thought he was a she. He would run when ever anybody would get to close so my husband would call him sissy ass. I told him we can’t call him that. So I started calling him sissy, need I remind you at the time he is a she. Until this fall I didn’t see him for a couple days. When he came back. I decided to look again. Guess what I found? He has doubled in size easy sence spring. I love his maine, the way he walks. And those paws are huge. He walks like a Lion looks like a tiger and plays like a kitten. He is beautiful and sweet.

Zoey is laying on his back with his head propped on my leg as I type. I love him so much I think I would be sickly ill when he dies. He follows me everywhere. Even if he is dead asleep, and I move into the other room; within minutes he is sleeping near me again. He sleeps right next to me, touching me, with his head on the pillow. He exhibits amazing loyalty and gives me so much love it’s indescribable. He always comes running to greet me when I come in. His favorite way to lay is on his back, stretched out. He is very smart and loves to find different ways to wake me up in the morning; chewing electrical cords, pawing at the blinds, trying to knock over things in my bedroom. My baby is 15 pounds and gets tons of compliments. I could go on and on about how amazing he is. He’s the love of my life.

My Maine Coon is 8 years old. We thought she wouldn’t make it. My ex-husband went hunting and instead of a deer he brought back this tiny kitten with a kink in her tail! We named her Kink. We affectionately call her “Kinkerbell”. She is the sweetest, gentlest cat I have ever owned. She is a lap cat, for sure! She loves strangers, kids, dogs. The only person she gets annoyed with is her other kitty “friend” who is young and wants to play ALL the time. I would recommend a Maine Coon to anyone looking for a cat. She loves to be groomed, snuggled, and she talks. Yes, she is the chattiest cat. She is very vocal if she needs food or water, even when she is not liking her litter box she lets us know. I love my Kinkerbell. So glad we got a kitten that hunting season!

We adopted a Maine Coon from the shelter when he was 12 weeks old. We named him Twinkie because he is sweet and orange and white in color. After about 2 weeks, we went back to the shelter and adopted his biological brother so he would have a playmate. We named him Scooby. I can tell you that these cats are the love of my life! They follow me from room to room and greet me at the door when I get home! They both sleep with me at night - usually right on top of me - LOL! I woke up one morning and Scooby was right next to me - laying on his back, under the covers with me and his head on my shoulder. CUTE! When I take a shower, they both wait for me right outside the door! They do jump in my lap and they let me hold them 99% of the time I pick them up. Scooby would let me hold him for a whole day if I could - LOL! These are truely amazing cats! They are VERY vocal especially when they are hungry. I spoil them and give them Fancy Feast Appetizers 3 times per day plus unlimited healthy dry food! These cats even watch me clean out their litter boxes! They like it when I watch them play and if I step out of the room, they follow me. They are intriged by anything I do! I highly recomment this breed! We have another older cat and these are the 1st cats he has gotten along with! A must have breed if you are a cat lover! Thanks for reading!
